RainSoft was founded in 1953 by John Grayson. John started in the water softener systems business after his service in the United States Air Force in WW2. He enjoyed the business, but he was not impressed with the equipment. Due to his engineering background, John was able to build a more effective water softener system, and RainSoft was born.

John Grayson combined shrewd business sense, marketing chops, and a desire to motivate others to grow RainSoft. Above all, he enjoyed helping homeowners and their families. Entrepreneurs around the country and around the world saw the success of RainSoft and brought dealerships to their own regions. And in the process, RainSoft became a household name.
